Distinct Education – an aid for Engineering

India is a diverse and democratic country and is also advancing in global technologies. This increased in the number of engineering graduates across the states. In India, most of the students wish to enroll for engineering courses after their higher secondary education. A great demand arises among the students to reserve a seat in well-known institutions; as they have spend a lot of money and their valuable time to prepare for the entrance examinations. But only a few students are able to crack the exams and get into renowned institutions as per their desire. This became an advantage for emerging engineering colleges as well as students. It was beneficial for students because they could still pursue their dream to be an engineer by enrolling into these colleges. Insufficient knowledge about the fact of ‘engineering’ and their respective field deprives the growth of eminent engineers with minimal employability skills. People have misconception regarding engineers. They think engineers ought to be “super-humans” who can build several gadgets like rockets, robots, electric vehicles etc. The reason following this misconception is that when an emerging engineer is working on a project based on satellites, people conclude his versatility in knowing every minute detail about the satellites. In reality, complete details of the projects are not known by any engineer. For example, to design an electric car people from different streams such as electrical, mechanical, chemical engineering etc. are required.
Engineering college is a place where future engineers are nurtured. But it’s a misconception that drives people to think engineering colleges are build up with business point of view.  As an engineer, student or aspirant, we all know that unless an engineering college, course and seats are certified by AICTE, they are not valid. Engineering colleges are in great demand as they sharpen the skills of the students making them a potent asset for India. Engineering colleges are still the flame of development of Indian economy. Hence they must be peculiar such that the students passing out from any institute should have unified knowledge towards their particular subject and acuteness to perform some epic contribution towards their workplaces. Rather than increasing the quantity we must focus on the quality. Even after pursuing BE, students are clueless about their carrier.

An enormous increase in colleges indirectly impacts the quality of education and depletes the number of jobs in the industries. Quality education must be rendered with respect to practical knowledge rather than theoretical aspects.
The primary objective of engineering education is to give good intuitive basic and analytical skills. The Engineering stream increases the ability of gaining capital by creating assets. Education has to be delivered with quality so that innovative ideas emerging from the engineering graduates could develop the economic growth of the country. Engineering colleges can maintain their quality in varied ways. There are many private engineering colleges who are contributing standard education in quality environment. It is important for such institutions to bring out the best in students because it is basically the results and the quality of the students that will form the criteria for judging the credibility of such colleges.
Technical challenges that will encounter in future require highly skilled engineers, and our educational system needs to train students who can do their best.

Following improvements are needed in engineering education to improve the Quality.

1.Develop elementary as well as secondary school education to students to succeed in engineering school. This should comprise classes that will cultivate engineering skills at an early stage.
2.Having the right kind of education is important. Great improvements need to be made by improving the quality and relevance of these courses. Concentrating on the key areas where one could be educated to understand and make good decisions.
3.Part of the engineering curriculum should be adjusted for betterment of students.
Statistics, problem solving, safety and basic business acumen are key areas in which every engineer should be experienced.
4.Public relations are important.
This will teach people about the value of engineering, the roles that engineers play in this world and the opportunities that exist for engineers may help many to be inspired to become engineers.

All engineering institutions need to be better, and find ways to help others meet higher standards.

Significance of Training and Placement Cell in Engineering Colleges

In today’s education system, we can see a significant skill gap. Out of the lot 80% of the engineering graduates are unemployed, and hence a need for an upgraded education system arises. Most of the graduated students look out for jobs either in software or core engineering fields, but only few are able to fulfill the requisite according to the desired skills. In today’s world, engineering has become one of the common graduation degrees among en number of students. One can find every second person as an aspiring engineer.  In spite of, improving the educational standards, it is more essential to evolve some undergraduate programs to make the folks more job-centric. Considering all the cities, Pune still continues to produce the highest number of engineers. The primary reasons for such poor job scopes or opportunities include an inadequate knowledge about the domain area, the inability to relate basic concepts and principles applied in the fields of computer or mechanical engineering to real-world problems etc. There is a vivid gap in the culture taught and learned by majority of institutes even though the concepts and principles exist in the curriculum designed for colleges. In such situations Campus placement plays a vital role. It fulfills the gap by giving right opportunity to the students. A job suitable to one’s profile is handed over. Campus placement is the program conducted by training and placement cell of every engineering institute to provide jobs to students appearing their final year of engineering. In this program, various industries visit the colleges and select the students based on their skills, academic records, determination, focus and their aim.

Training and placement cell is an integral part of every institute. The cell is sensitized to function throughout the year for generating placements and training opportunities for the students. They also provide different soft and hard skills training to the students during vacation and also during regular college hours. Campus placement hence should be on top of every student’s checklist before considering any Engineering Institute. Shree Ramchandra College of Engineering is one of the best colleges in Wagholi, Pune. SRCOE has also build training and placement cell, as it resembles the mirror or face of any instituteA student seeking admission in any college, first tries to find out the placement assistance that the other students have received in the past.  The higher the number of placements, the better the college and it would be the best for students facing the present competitive world. But only a few colleges succeed in attracting renowned companies for campus drive in their respective colleges, and hence such colleges have more advantages over the others.
The ultimate aim of Training & Placement Cell in SRCOE is to provide employment opportunities and world class training to Students in Leading Organizations. The Cell is well equipped with ample infrastructure such as testing halls, consultancy hall etc. for activities like Pre Placement Talk, Presentations and Group discussion etc. Training and Placement cell is an apt place to be in touch with from an industrial point of view. It is also very useful for industries that are willing to recruit fresher’s.  The range of activities which the industry wants to take up from an institute directly depends on the active role of Training and Placement officer and his team. More energetic and vibrant the Officer, the more energetic and vibrant would be the placement cell. Asst. Prof.Sneha Deshmukh is the Training and Placement officer at SRCOE.

Following are the functions done by the Training and Placement cell

  • ·        To assist the development and maintenance of the database of every student.
  • ·   Prepare the student’s database with all relevant information such as Personal details, Academic details, Achievement, extra skills set etc.
  • ·        Guide students to prepare their Resume and maintains a separate file for resumes in both soft as well as hard copy with required certificates.
  • ·     A list of companies / organizations with brief profile, address, contact details of concerned HR person etc to be maintained.
  • ·        To invite promising companies to campus for recruitment.
  • ·        Conduct regular soft and hard skill sessions for the students.
  • ·        Conduct aptitude practice test for students.
  • ·         Conduct personality development programs and career counseling programs for students.
  • ·        Arranging industrial visits for students & faculties at reputed industries.
  • ·       Taking regular feedback from industries about the performance of the students and department and find out the weaknesses in  students

The cell also arranges training programs at various reputed industries like Maruti Udyog Ltd., L&T, Havells, DRDO, CSIO, Ericsson, Siemens, Reliance Group, HCL, Samsung, LG etc. The training programs are held at the end of 4th semester. Training is of 4 weeks and by the end of 6th - 8th semester, the training increases up to 6 weeks. The students act as a channel of communication with the industries. It also encourages students to participate in technical paper presentation that are held in collaboration with various industries so that, students can discuss about new developments and trends in market. Training and placement cell enables students to get the right job at the right time and also at the right place.
